How to claim

Well water around Edmonton behaves nothing like city water. Acreage owners near Leduc, Devon, Fort Saskatchewan and Strathcona County call us about three things: orange staining, a rotten-egg smell, and softeners that quit within a year of installation.

All three trace back to the same mistake — installing equipment before testing the water. Iron, manganese, sulphur, tannins and pH all change what treatment is required and what order it has to go in.

We test on site, explain the numbers, then design a treatment train around your actual water chemistry.

Benefits of Well Water Treatment

Iron: the staining culprit

Dissolved ferrous iron is invisible in a glass of water until air oxidizes it, at which point it plates onto porcelain, laundry and fixtures as orange-brown stain. Already-oxidized ferric iron shows up as visible rust particles.

Which one you have decides the fix. Low levels of dissolved iron can be handled by a softener with iron capacity; higher concentrations need a dedicated iron filter or an oxidizing system ahead of the softener. Guessing here is what kills resin beds.

Sulphur and the rotten-egg smell

Hydrogen sulphide gas produces that unmistakable smell. If you only notice it at the hot tap, the source is often a reaction with the water heater’s anode rod — a far cheaper fix than whole-home treatment. Present at every tap, it needs oxidation and filtration.

Why well softeners fail early

A softener installed on untreated well water fouls with iron and sediment, and no amount of salt brings the resin back. Correct pre-treatment is the difference between a system that lasts a decade and one that disappoints in a season.

Bacteria and UV

If a well has ever tested positive for coliform, UV disinfection is worth discussing. UV needs clear water to work, so it always sits last in the treatment train after filtration and softening.

Well Water Treatment FAQs

We test on site for iron, manganese, hardness, pH, sulphur and tannins during a free water assessment, and recommend a certified lab test for bacteria where it matters.
Only low levels of dissolved iron, and only when the softener is sized with that load in mind. Higher iron requires dedicated filtration ahead of the softener or the resin fouls.
